It is time for Retreat in UAE

(Written by one of the satsangi who has been kind enough to share tips)

It is time for a retreat in UAE!

I have attended many retreats and yet, each time has me excited! I happen to meet a satsangi who is new and was curious about what to expect. I promised to share my experience and here it is.

Retreat means getting away from the normal routine. It is usually in a location away from the crowd and close to some natural surroundings.

In case of this year’s UAE Retreat, we arrive and settle in on 30th Jan and retreat starts on 31st Jan. We reach the venue according to the plan and retreat starts officially next day morning.

30 Jan is the day of informal satsang with Master. Being around him, listening to him as we sip a cup of tea or sitting outdoors is fun.

Many participants have known each other for years and for others it may be the first time at a retreat. We include those who seem new or a little lost. The first time can be intimidating, especially if those around you seem to know each other and you feel rather alone. Don’t hesitate, join them.

Housing is always about sharing space. If you find yourself assigned to living quarters with complete strangers, welcome it as an opportunity to learn another point of view or have a different experience. It is only for a short time anyway and you will miss it later.

Consciously spend a few days living for others and not yourself. Make the groups comfort your priority. It is great training and practice for leading a more compassionate life.

Clean up diligently after yourself, especially ensuring that you leave the bathroom as you would like to find it.

Come prepared with warm clothing. Days should be pleasant but early morning, evenings & nights are cold. Bring a towel, or two, and your toiletries including shampoo and soap. The hotel will provide supplies but we are going to be 6 sharing a villa meant for 4. If anything has been forgotten, between all those sharing a villa it will hopefully be covered!

Be on time for all activities. As much as you can, be a part of all that is planned for the day. A typical day begins early and would have the following activities:

6:00 am Yoga
6:30 am Meditation
7:00 am Walk
8:00 am Breakfast
9:00 am Satsang
10:30 am Tea Break
11:00 am One to One with Master
12:30 pm Lunch
1:00 pm Rest
4:00 pm Tea
4:30 pm One to One with Master
6:00 pm Meditation
6:30 pm Bhajans
7:30 pm Dinner

This is general guideline. Specific plan will be shared while in the retreat.

Our retreat schedule has a lot of time spent in meditation and contemplation, particularly when One to One Meetings are going on. ”Quiet“ is an enjoyable experience of togetherness in silence, feeling the warmth of company without constant conversation. Someone told me once, for the Engineer to work on a machine, it has to be idle. He cannot repair a running machine. You get the hint, don’t you?

We sometimes go and sit outdoors for meditation, on the beach and once in the desert. At this retreat, we are close to a mountain called Jabel Hafeet. Who knows, we may go up this time! Jabel Hafeet is 1249 meters (4098 ft) high & offers impressive view of vastness. There are some beautiful spots from where one can witness sun rise or sunset. I feel it would a good place to meditate once.

Each one of us will leave having learnt something. With work and Grace, those lessons will help us become better individuals…..

 More kind, more truthful.

Sri M Said…

When all the ‘maya‘ or ‘delusion’ has been cleared; when all the agitations of the mind are cleared, then it is the true essence…what remains is complete happiness, the Truth, which is known as theBrahman. Now this is the teaching of the Upanishad.

Nature of Things

monks at the river

Two monks were washing their bowls in the river when they noticed a scorpion that was drowning. One monk immediately scooped it up and set it upon the bank. In the process he was stung. He went back to washing his bowl and again the scorpion fell in. The monk saved the scorpion and was again stung.

The other monk asked him, “Friend, why do you continue to save the scorpion when you know it’s nature is to sting?”

“Because,” the monk replied, “to save it is my nature.”

A STUNNING FIRST PERSON ACCOUNT OF A MODERN MYSTIC

Takelight

Friends,

I am delighted to share video of my Teacher, Guide &  Friend Sri M. The interview was conducted by Ted Henry & Jody Cleary and is a must watch video.

“The amazing first person accounts of Sri M, guru to many and author of what’s said to be among India’s fastest selling book on spirituality, “Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master: A Yogi’s Autobiography”.

Sri M lives in the ashram he created in Madanapalle, India. Born into a Muslim family as, Mumtaz Ali Khan, Sri M is considered to be one of India’s leading contemporary mystics. As a young man, Sri M lived for several years high in the Himalayan mountains with his teacher, Sri Maheshwarnath Babaji who in turn was the disciple of Mahavatar Babaji.

In this interview, Sri M tells of meeting in person, Shirdi Sai Baba, Mahavatar Babaji, serpent spiritual beings fro another galaxy and many others…
